Youth Hunts
Since 2009, LSA has supported our heritage with mentored Youth Pheasant and Youth Turkey hunts
Youth Pheasant Program
For over 80 years, MassWildlife has provided pheasant hatchlings each summer to Lee Sportsmen’s Association. Adult and youth volunteers learn to feed and care for roughly 500 hatchlings throughout the summer and fall. We are one of only two sporting clubs in the state participating in this program. Adult pheasants are released in designated public hunting areas during the pheasant hunting season as part of MassWildlife’s pheasant stocking program. Funds for feed, care, and maintenance are raised by the annual dinner and turkey shoot by LSA volunteers.
The youth pheasant program is designed to provide young hunters with specialized pheasant hunting training and instruction, as well as reinforce what they learned in Basic Hunter Education. Young hunters will have the opportunity to practice firearms safety, develop shooting skills, and participate in a special pheasant hunt under the guidance of a safe, experienced adult hunter. This program, held by Lee Sportsmen’s Association, is a pheasant seminar and a mentored pheasant hunt.
Upcoming — 2024 Pheasant Hunt
The seminar is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, September 21st from 9am-1pm (based on participant availability) and the hunt will be Saturday, October 12th from 9am-1pm.
In addition to the seminar and hunt, participants are required to attend mandatory range days. The date and time of these range days will be based on participant’s availability. Signups are done through the MassWildlife website and are limited to 8 participants.
YOUTH TURKEY HUNT (TBD)
Introduce minors (age 12-17) to hunting through this safe and fun program offered by MassWildlife, the Massachusetts State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, and participating Sportsmen’s Clubs. The Youth Turkey Hunt Program consists of a turkey hunt seminar and a mentored turkey hunt. This year, the mentored hunt will be on TBD. A special permit is issued that allows for a mentored hunt on the Saturday prior to the last Monday in April, and remains valid for the regular spring turkey season following the youth hunt date.
