May Membership Meeting *Special Vote Required* - Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 @ 7pm, Main Clubhouse

In accordance with the LSA Bylaws, the LSA Board of Directors and the Shotgun Fields & Outdoor Pistol Range Committees are seeking Membership approval for up to $8,000 to purchase and install the final portion of the barrier between the Shotgun Fields and the Outdoor Pistol Ranges, which will be constructed out of double-sided fencing (baffle) and installed on the left side of Bay 1 and be about 10 feet tall. A continuous reminder: We are reflecting spall – not direct pistol fire – with this project and the goal is that we are able to run programs on both the Outdoor Pistol Range and the Shotgun Fields simultaneously. This expenditure requires Membership approval, and a vote will be taken at the May 2024 Membership Meeting on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024, at 7pm in the Main Clubhouse. Please direct any further questions or concerns to the LSA Board of Directors at bod@leesportsmen.com and we will do our best to assist you.

LSA Members to be Honored at Berkshire County League of Sportsmen Silvio Conte Sportsman of the Year Memorial Dinner - Saturday, April 13th, 2024 @ 4:30PM, Cheshire Rod & Gun Club

Our Outdoor Pistol Chairman, Ted Pointek, of Housatonic was selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ted has been the driving force behind the success of the Outdoor Pistol Range programs at Lee Sportsmen’s Association. Every match requires 4-5 hours of preparation time, including finding the stages online, making sure they work, managing the roster, loading the supplies, preparing targets, purchasing supplies, and doing the needed financial paperwork for the Club. His Friday nights are spent loading his truck with the needed equipment. On Saturday mornings, Ted is at the Club by 8am setting up the stages and will be there until 1 or 2pm getting things setup. On match days, he is always the first to come and last go, 8am till about 4pm, making sure the range is left in better shape than he found it. Then, Ted pours through the scores and unusually posts them the same night to all the match participants. He is always bringing something he has built over the week to make the matches go smoother, be it a target stand or a pallet to transport something. Every target and wall stand has been constructed or modified by Ted in his shop. All winter, Ted works on making more shooting equipment or something to organize the shooting equipment. Every match, Ted brings an entire tool truck that we use to help us setup and break down the match. Recently, Ted re-engineered all the steel targets to reduce the possibility of sprawl and ricochets going upward. He often makes trips to the Club on non-match weekends to do ground work or work on the targets or bays. Considering there are 3 matches, 2  USPSA matches and 1 Steel Challenge match per month (about 60+ man hours per month), Ted’s accomplishments speak for the themselves.

The late Richard ‘Rick’ Theilig of Lee was selected to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award posthumously. Rick was a member of Lee Sportsmen’s Association for many years and he was its President in 1995. He was very talented with all disciplines of shooting in archery, rifle, and skeet shooting. He was instrumental in running LSA’s archery program both indoor and outdoor for many years. He ran many archery leagues and tournaments. He helped found and build LSA’s Youth Archery Program during its infancy. In recent years, he helped instruct youth archers at the Stockbridge Sportsmen’s Club in its adult archery league. Rick was also a great archery tournament champion traveling all over the country. He passed away in December 2023.
