Basic Hunter Education Course

MassWildlife Hunter Education Program Mission:

To protect the lives and safety of the public, promote the wise management and ethical use of our wildlife resources, and encourage a greater appreciation of the environment through education.

  • Provides training in the safe handling of firearms, and other outdoor activities related to hunting and firearm use.
  • Funded by the sale of hunting & sporting licenses, and by federal excise taxes on firearms & archery equipment.
  • Hunter Education was first offered in MA in 1954. It is required to get a MA Hunting or Sporting License.
  • LSA has been training Berkshire County youth through the state Hunter Ed. program since 2010. If under 18 yrs of age, a parent/guardian written permission is required to take the course.

Basic Hunter Education Course Field Day – Saturday, September 6th, 2025 @ 9am – 4pm

The field day at LSA has been scheduled for Saturday, September 6th, 2025, from 9am to 4pm, and participants are required to sign up for the field day through the MassWildlife website, as LSA does not handle registration.

Requirements:

Lee Sportsmen’s Association has scheduled a blended Basic Hunter Education Course with MassWildlife, in which students complete the online MA Hunter Study Guide before attending one in-person Field Day. For the blended format, participants must:
1. Complete the online MA Hunter Study Guide at huntercourse.com.
2. Use this online form to register, provide proof of completing the study guide, and select a field day (dates listed on the website below).
3. Attend the field day at LSA on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, from 9am to 4pm to finish the course and take the final exam.

All courses are free of charge and open to the public. Students 17 years old or younger must have parental consent to attend this course, and parents/guardians are invited and encouraged to stay for the sessions as well.
