Basic Hunter Education Course

Mass Wildlife Hunter Education Program Mission: To protect the lives and safety of the public, promote the wise management and ethical use of our wildlife resources, and encourage a greater appreciation of the environment through education.

  • Provides training in the safe handling of firearms, and other outdoor activities related to hunting and firearm use.
  • This is funded by the sale of hunting & sporting licenses, and by federal excise taxes on firearms & archery equipment.
  • Hunter Education was first offered in MA in 1954.  It is required to get a MA Hunting or Sporting License.
  • LSA has been training Berkshire County youth through the state Hunter Ed. program since 2010.
  • If under 18 yrs of age, a parent/guardian written permission is required to take the course.
  • This class is taught by Certified Volunteer Instructors.  Jeff Scrimo is the LSA Hunter Ed. Team Leader, and he is assisted by LSA volunteers that are certified instructors.
  • Candidates must attend ALL dates of course held at the LSA Clubhouse.  There is a blended learning portion of this course online that must be completed to pass the course.
